Yarden Gewurztraminer Kosher for Passover Golan Heights Israel White Wine 750 mL

Yarden Gewurztraminer

The Yarden Gewurztraminer shows off that blend of characters that only “Gewurz” possesses: warm spice, fresh litchi, bright citrus and aromatic floral. Finished with just a hint of sweetness, the wine’s medium body and full flavor make it a great aperitif or accompaniment to food. We often open up a bottle of Yarden Gewurztraminer for guests as we put the final touches on whatever we are cooking (is anyone ever completely finished cooking when friends arrive?). We also like it as a pair to soups- try it with a slightly tart sorrel soup, based on a rich chicken stock. Spicy foods also work well, such as cubes of chicken in a sauce of coconut milk, aromatic vegetables (carrots, celery, shallots, ginger and cilantro) and green Thai curry paste.

The Wine

The  Yarden Gewurztraminer presents alluring litchi, passion fruit, melon, spice and honeysuckle notes. This complex medium-bodied wine is just off-dry and full of flavor.

Ready to enjoy now, Yarden Gewurztraminer improves in the bottle for some 18 months from harvest, and remains in good drinking condition for some three years from harvest. We like serving the wine as an aperitif, or pairing it with spicy Korean lamb ribs, red lentil Indian curry or sweet potato gnocchi.

The Appellation

The Galilee (or Galil) is the most northern, and generally considered the best, appellation in Israel. The highest quality area within the appellation is the Golan Heights (or simply the Golan), the coldest region in Israel. The vineyards on this volcanic plateau rise from 400 meters (1,300 feet) above sea level to 1,200 meters (3,900 feet) and receive snowfall in the winter. Golan Heights Winery is located in the town of Katzrin in the central Golan.
