Wakatake, Onikoroshi Demon Slayer Junmai Ginjo Sake Japan Rice Wine 720mL

$42.99

The name of this sake, “Onikoroshi” tranlsates to “Demon Slayer”. As a “Junmai” it is only made with water, rice and Koji, no other additives. As a “Ginjo” sake, the rice grains used must be milled down to at most 60% of the original size which gives a more aromatic and delicate taste.

Lively aromas of watermelon and fresh-cut grass, with expressive notes of chocolate, grains, green apple, and a hint of spices. Great balance between fruit and acidity, dry finish. A friendly and versatile sake, and a great match for tomato-based or tempura dishes. Best served chilled or at room temperature. Wine fans who enjoy the lively fruit of an Oregon Pinot Noir will love this sake.

Description

Established in 1832, from Shizuoko prefecture. Located along the Ohi river, in the center of Japan, flowing to the Pacific Ocean from Japan’s southern Alps; the town of Shimada once prospered as one of the lodging towns of the 53 post stations of the Tokaido.

The original Wakatake Onikoroshi sake is historically famous for having comforted many weary travelers crossing the Ohi river. For years, since the brewery’s foundation, they have lived through the rise and fall of history with the people in the town, and have enjoyed their hospitality.
Although there were several breweries in the town at that time, due to its good-quality water, Ohmuraya shuzojo brewery is the only one remaining now. They continue doing their best to convey one of the most important traditional industries of Japan to the next generation.

nextSectinoLight, smooth and rich. Very clean, almost watermelon-tinged nose, round and quite impressive in the mouth. Pairs well with tempura dishes and fried calamari.
