Description
About the vineyards A mere 10,000 bottles a year total production comes from the Thalassinos’ family vineyards on Crete. The climate is Mediterranean with hot dry summers and mild winters. Altitude range is awesome, from sea level to 850m. The red grapes they cultivate are: Liatiko,Kotsifali,Syrah and Grenache. Of course Mediterranean grown Syrah and Grenache produce wonderful wines!
About the winegrowers I say “winegrowers” because the grapes make the wine, not the “winemaker”. He just has to nurture the infant wine and then “raise” it to adulthood without making too many mistakes. So maybe he’s the “winedaddy”? Anyway the founder Myron Thalassinos practiced organic way before it became cool. His son and daughter-in-law, Isidoros and Virginia continue the tradition and call their enterprise a “microwinery” and are equally commited to organic and sustainable agricultural practices. These two winemakers’ base of operations is the 250 old “Mehoti” or farmhouse on the property.
About the wine The “Luna Nata” Syrah is a beautiful wine with medium tannins, medium acidity, medium to full body with good short term aging potential. It shows lots of red and black fruit with notes of ground pepper and some wild herb aromas. In the back are hints of leather and smoke. Pair it with grilled lamb and beef or grilled vegetables.
