The Winery: History of Rustenberg: The Rustenberg “Farm” was built by Germans 1600’s, sold to Dutch in 1810, then to the Englishman John X. Merriman in 1892, Merriman replants phylloxera ravaged vines re-establishes neglected vineyard and winery. 1941 Peter Barlow (on leave from wwii) comes home to buy the farm and make wine. 1987 Peter’s son Simon buys the farm and pulls his son Murray Simon into the family business. in 2004 Rustenberg was designated a world heritage sight and presently 3 generations of Barrows have continuously owned and operated Rustenberg for over 80 years!
The Wine: This 100% Cabernet was grown in the Stellenbosch region which is legend for great cabs. It was fermented in stainless steel and aged for 16 months in new and used French oak barrels. This wine is quite dense, brimming with dark berries and tobacco. You might want to decant before pouring.
