Muga Rioja Rosado Spanish Rose Wine 750 mL

90 rating Wine Advocate
The very pale and delicate 2023 Rosado was still in tank, waiting to be bottled. 2023 was also a very ripe year, resulting in a challenging vintage. It’s a combination of Garnacha and Viura. It has 13.4% alcohol and is still a bit reductive. They managed to keep the freshness, with moderate alcohol and a dry, chalky mouthfeel, clean, tasty, serious and long. This is a very gastronomical rosé.
91 rating James Suckling
A layered and flavorful rosé with sliced lemons, white pepper and raspberries with hints of citrus. Some pear skin. Medium body. Crunchy. Hints of phenolics. This is a blend of garnacha and viura, co-fermented. Stainless.

Ideal with seafood, pasta and rice dishes and salads. Great to drink by the glass as a starter or with a small snack on a terrace.

Characteristics Muga Rosado: Muga Rosado is a rosé wine by Bodegas Muga in DO La Rioja. Located in the town of Haro, one of the towns with the highest concentration of wineries in the world, Bodegas Muga is one of the historic cellars of La Rioja.

About Bodegas Muga: They began making wine in 1932, when Isaac Muga and Aurora Caño married. Muga Rosado is made from a blend of Garnacha, Tempranillo and Viura, typical varieties of La Rioja, from vineyards planted up to 480 metres above sea level on clay-limestone soils, with a climate marked by Atlantic, Continental and Mediterranean influences.

Winemaking: Once in the winery, the grapes are selected, destemmed and macerated for 12 hours before fermentation takes place in wooden tanks of about 2000 litres for 20-25 days at a controlled temperature of 18 degrees.

Once the fermentation has occurred, Muga Rosado rests for two months with its lees. After this, it is stabilised cold, filtered and bottled, ready to go to market. Muga Rosado is between rosé wine amongst rosés. Each wine vintage after the next delights its fans. And there are many.
