Michter’s Distillery located on Whiskey Row in Louisville, Kentucky has released its first barrel strength rye whiskey in two years. The inaugural Michter’s Barrel Strength Rye whiskey came out in May 2015.
What makes Michter’s unique is their freshly distilled spirits enter the barrel at a lower proof. As the barrels mature they general increase in proof and in the case of the barrel strength whiskey no water is added so the final yield is a richer, smoother, more full-bodied whiskey after maturation.
“Our team has been turning out some wonderful Kentucky style ryes over the years, and this 2021 release continues that trend,” said Michter’s President Joseph J. Magliocco.
Regarding this first release since April 2019 Master Distiller Dan McKee commented, “I was really happy when we tasted these barrels. This release has so much of what I look for in a rye.”
