Description
Vinous 91 points – Bright straw-gold. Delicate but enticing aromas of pineapple, marzipan, sweet spices and grapefruit nectar, plus a touch of smoky grilled nuts that complements rather than overwhelms the wine. Suave and complex, this showcases lovely balance and a captivating sweet-sour quality on the long, floral finish. Made with 50% bought grapes, this Gewurz offers an uncanny combination of richness and delicacy; the note of grilled nuts on the back end is typical of the warm year.
Wine Advocate 89 points – The Gewurztraminer Classic opens clear, fresh and spicy on the nose. The palate is pure and salty, pretty intense and provided with ripe pear aromas. The 2015 is stunningly clear, fresh and finessed for the vintage and finishes with good grip and tension..June
James Suckling 91 points – Bright and supple at the same time. This gewurztraminer is light years removed from the sweet showgirl wines that dominate the market. The lychee and Turkish-delight character of the grape only shows at the finish.
Consumers can rely on the Hugel style that represents pure, dry, straight yet elegant, and food-friendly Alsace classics that reflect the specific grape varieties as well as the specific terroirs, even though Hugel still doesn’t mention the vineyard name on the label. -Stephan Reinhardt, WA
