Vinous 91 Points – The 2017 Primitivo di Manduria Il Matané is darkly alluring, with balsamic spices, mint and hints of licorice giving lift to brambly black fruits. Its silky textures flesh out across the palate, ushering in mineral-tinged ripe berries and nuances of dark chocolate. This tapers off long with a staining of blue-toned fruits and hints of mocha. For all of its extroverted character, the Il Matané comes across as elegant and harmonious. Nicely done. Best after 2021.
