Coombsville is Napa’s best kept secret gem. Under Napa we have such great AVA’s (American Viticultural Areas) as Rutherford and Oakville to mention just two. Coombsville is the newest Napa sub AVA. It is just east of the city of Napa and closest to San Pablo Bay. In a word it is cooler than other Napa AVA’s. The climate results in intense color and blue-black fruit character with good mineral notes from the greater volcanic content in the soil compared to further down the valley. The Faust property was founded by Augustin Huneeus in 1998. This man has developed some of the greatest properties in California since immigrating from his native Chile where his career began. The crown jewel of the Huneuus is Quintessa but he is also proprietor of such beauties as Faust, Flowers, Leviathan and Flowers to name a few.
“Aromas of fresh herbs, pungent cedar, and forest swirl in the glass with more delicate floral notes, black pepper, bittersweet chocolate, and crushed rock. On the palate, a little brambly-vine quality clings to blackberry flavors, and warmly spiced dark plum is layered with fresh herbs for a lively, sweet-savory balance. Fine tannins yield satisfyingly rich, velvety textures, while vibrant acidity keeps you coming back for another sip.” – David Jelinek, Winemaker
