Coffee Pot Cellars Meritage North Fork of Long Island Red Wine

$27.99

Rated 90 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate! previous vintage

The  Meritage is the winery’s Bordeaux blend: 52% Merlot, 23% Petit Verdot, 19% Cabernet Franc and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 20 months in French oak, only 18% new. Sourced from three sites (McCullough, Onabay and Osprey’s Dominion), it comes in at 13% alcohol. This projects fine concentration plus excellent focus, beautiful structure and a fair bit of power. It is nowhere near done evolving. Some two hours after opening, the wine in the glass still seemed excellent and developing. With an Old World feel to it (yes, a stereotype; forgive me), it should make a great food wine but it will be less appealing on its own. It should age well and keep improving over the next few years, although I do like to be conservative with drinking windows. This winery is owned by winemaker Adam Suprenant, who also makes wine for Osprey’s Dominion (since 2001). The first wines were released in 2011 and a tasting room opened in 2013 in Cutchogue. He has prior experience at Franciscan in Napa and is a UC Davis grad.” – Robert Parker
