“The 2021 La Tour de Mons was picked from 28 September to 12 October, the first complete vintage undertaken by Marjolaine de Coninck and her team. Matured in 25% new oak, it has a fragrant bouquet, quite graceful and pure with seductive red brambly fruit laced with nuanced undergrowth aromas. The palate is elegant and poised with fine acidity, filigree tannins with a pure and caressing finish. This Margaux comes recommended.”

Description

“The sizeable 58-hectare vineyard of Chateau La Tour de Mons is planted to 56% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot. This shows a change in the vineyard because previously, they had Cabernet Franc also planted in their vineyard, but those vines have been completely removed. They have a terroir of gravel, clay, and limestone soils.

They have a terroir of gravel, clay, and limestone soils. The vineyard is located in the north of the appellation in the Soussans commune.
The 58 hectare Left Bank vineyard of Chateau La Tour de Mons is placed in one large single block of vines. Located not all that far from the Gironde river, this is a really good terroir. I wonder why the estate was not part of the 1855 Classification?

On average, the vines are 30 years of age. However, they also have old vines. Their oldest vines were planted all the way back in 1934.
Chateau La Tour de Mons is vinified in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation takes place in vat. The wine is aged in 40% new, French oak barrels for 12 months before bottling. There is a second wine, Chateau Marquis de Mons. On average, Chateau La Tour de Mons produces about 25,000 cases of wine per years
