Cantine due Palma Pillastro Primitivo Negroamaro Gold Label Italian Red Wine 750 mL

$19.99

Puglia’s Mediterranean climate and iron-rich, calcareous soils support the indigenous Primitivo, Negroamaro. Primitivo produces an inky, spicy, brambly and ripe red wine whose best expression comes from Manduria while Negroamaro, plays a large part in this blend. Try this Negroamaro blend with barbecue chicken pizza, pulled pork sandwiches or teriyaki. Caramelized foods seen to bring out the sweetness in this wine.

Tasting Note: Handcrafted with chocolaty, old-vine Primitivo grapes, then given a splash of deep, dark Negroamaro, the wine was barrel aged for extra smoothness and complexity.

Description

Cantine Due Palme, is a cooperative founded in 1989 in Cellino San Marco, in the province of Brindisi in the high part of Salento. It is a project of Angelo Maci, third generation of winemakers/ grape growers, who with steadiness and dedication has made Cantine Due Palme one of the most active cooperatives in the South of Italy.

Well-suited to the production of concentrated, fruity and spicy red varieties, Puglia is one of Italy’s warmest, most southerly regions. Its entire eastern side is one long coastline bordering the Adriatic Sea. About half way down, the region becomes the Salento Peninsula. This peninsula, bordered by water on three sides, receives moist, nighttime, sea breezes that bring a welcome cooling effect to the region, where little rain creates a challenging environment for its vines. In fact, the region is named for the Italian expression, “a pluvia,” meaning “lack of rain.”
