Bonny Doon Le Cigare Volant California Red Wine 750 mL

$16.99

The 2021 Cigare is significantly riper, denser, and richer on the palate than Cigares d’antan, but its concentration was not attained with concomitant harshness, heat, or suggestions of over-ripeness. It is seamlessly knit, drinking exceptionally well at release,

with years ahead of it to go.

Blend: 65% Grenache, 18% Syrah, 15% Cinsault, 2% Petite Sirah

Story: In 1954, the village council of Chateauneuf-du-Pape was quite perturbed and apprehensive that flying saucers or “flying cigares” might do damage to their vineyards, were they to land therin. So right-thinking men all, they passed an ordinance prohibiting the landing of flying saucers or flying cigares in their vineyards. The ordinance further states that flying saucers or flying cigares that did land were to be taken immediately to the pound.

Bonny Doon Vineyard has a not so surprising history of idealism and innovation. Founded in the bucolic hamlet of Bonny Doon in the Santa Cruz Mountains in 1983 by Randall Grahm, Bonny Doon Vineyard is known for strikingly original wines made from “lesser” known (though no less “noble”) Rhône grape varieties, and has a long history of experimentation and innovation.
