Mora's Fine Wine and Spirits :: Australia :: Australia, Red :: Mitolo Reiver Shiraz 2007

  Mitolo Reiver Shiraz 2007
Mitolo Reiver Shiraz 2007  Named after bloodthirsty Anglo-Scot border raiders of the 14th & 15th centuries. I've no idea what Reivers have to do with this amazing wine. They seem more like a beer and whisky crowd. Here are some previous accolades and some information on the specific wine

Vineyard: The grapes come from a single vineyard in Greenock in the Northern part of the Barossa Valley, 550 metres above sea level, and grown in
a continental climate. The vine age is around 60 years and the yields are very low, under 2 tonnes an acre.

Vinification: The fruit was fermented for 10 days. The pressed wine underwent barrel fermentation followed by malolactic fermentation before racking. The gross lees were left in contact with the wine and stirred in barrel, to enhance typical Barossa earthy, truffle characters in the finished wine. It was then aged in fine grained French & American oak for 16 months.

Tasting Notes: Earth and spice, some dusty notes. Briary fruit and blackcurrant notes also provide a freshness to the nose. Flavours of dark chocolate, Satsuma plums and crushed leaves mingle with supple tannin and refreshing acidity.

Cellaring: Will evolve nicely for 8 to 10 years.

Winemaker: Ben Glaetzer.
