"Too often wines of high ripeness wind up losing their varietal ways in exchange for added volume and mass, but here is a wonderful exception to the rule that, while checking in at 15% alcohol, is very well-balanced, remarkably deep and in all ways keyed on Syrah. Laced with peppery spice and suggestive of smoked meats, it is simply loaded with fruit and shows more fleshiness than fat in the mouth. Its last-minute heat is easy enough to forgive, and its spine of tannins gives rise to expectations for four or five years of certain improvement as the reward for a bit of patience."
