"Our California Merlot is sourced frompremium vineyards and wine growing regions throughout the state. At Blackstone, we believe that each growing region adds richness and complexity to the final blend, making a wine of superior structure. Winemaker Dennis Hill's passion is creating wines that consumers will love. He's succeeded. Today, the Blackstone Merlot is the most popular red wine in America. After harvest, the grapes were gently crushed and cold-soaked for three days, enhancing color and flavors. The wine fermented for an additional week in static fermenters, receiving twice-daily pump overs to extract additional flavor and color for the wine 60% of the wine was aged for 12 months in American oak to add subtle oak complexity and richness. Syrah, Petite Sirah and a touch of Cabernet were added to the final blend to give the wine additional density and palate weight. The 2003 Blackstone Merlot perfectly demonstrates the "Blackstone style” rich fruit aromas, elegance, supple oak characters and soft tannins."
