Alto Moncayo Aquilon 2013 Garnacha Spanish Red Wine 750 mL

rated 94 Vinous Media December 2015 drink 2021-2027

"(aged in new French and American oak barrels for two years) Inky purple. Explosive spice- and smoke-accented aromas of ripe dark fruits, potpourri and candied licorice, with a zesty white pepper quality emerging as the wine opens up. Sweet, expansive and round on the palate, offering intense, mineral-laced blackberry and violet pastille flavors and repeating smokiness. Utterly stains the palate and shows noteworthy power and lift on the strikingly long finish, with building tannins adding shape and grip. There are only 200 cases of this elegant bruiser, which is made from a selection of the estate's oldest vines, most of which were planted over 100 years ago." -- Josh Raynolds

Benjamin Romeo Contador Rioja 2011 Spanish Red Wine 750 mL
Benjamin Romeo Contador Rioja 2011 Spanish Red Wine 750 mL

Wine Advocate 96 points - The 2011 Contador is a compact, tight-knit wine, serious and backward that needs plenty of air. It’s still a baby showing the typical aromas that only the very best barrels can give and that you only find in a very few top wines (and I’m thinking of Pingus here). However, the personality is quite different, akin to a young Nuits-St-Georges, with very fine tannins and subtle acidity. I feel the wine needs a couple of years in the bottle. Drink 2016-2022. .Luis Gutierrez, December/201

Benjamin Romeo Contador Rioja 2012 Spanish Red Wine 750 mL

97 Wine Advocate April 2015

One of the best showings for this wine in years, the 2012 Contador has an intoxicating nose of violets, lilies, blueberries and black cherries, with great harmony, denoting superb elegance. The palate is silky, with world-class tannins and texture, focused, clean flavors, very good balance and gob-smacking power and elegance. A rare combination. This is truly other wordy. It has the balance, stuffing, acidity and minerality to have a long life in bottle, but its exuberant youth is difficult to resist. Unfortunately, wines like this come at a price. I tasted two bottles, and even though it's not as polished as the Carmen Gran Reserva, it was approachable. But it would clearly benefit from more time in bottle. A couple of weeks later, I was served it and didn't recognize the wine at all; I found it extremely oaky and extracted, and in fact I guessed it to be a Tempranillo from Toro, which was disturbing when the wine was revealed as I didn't identify it at all (not even Rioja!). It showed very differently. We all know different bottles and circumstances show very differently, so I thought this was relevant to be mentioned here, as it made me hesitate. They told me the day of that blind tasting was a root day, but still I'm adding a question mark to my score, which might ultimately bee too conservative. 5,900 bottles produced. I tasted an impressive portfolio of wines from Benjamín Romeo, one of the best I can remember, with Contador going back to the elegance and Chambolle-like purity that I remember from vintages like 2000, but cleaner and more focused. The more traditional Carmen shows how the modern and traditional styles can coexist and even converge. Bravo Benjamín!

Rating for 2012 vintage 94 points VM Jan 2016 (raised in a combination of new French and American oak barrels for two years): Opaque purple. The highly expressive bouquet evokes black and blue fruit preserves, pipe tobacco, candied licorice, vanilla and smoky Indian spices. Lush and creamy in texture, with palate-coating cassis and cherry-vanilla flavors that are enlivened by juicy acidity and zesty minerality.

- Concentrated yet balanced, this rich, modern red is dense and fleshy, with muscular tannins and balsamic acidity supporting the thick texture. Ripe and heady flavors of blackberry, kirsch, currant, anise and dark chocolate mingle. Best from 2018 through 2028. From Spain.-T.M..August/2016

94 Points, Wine Spectator

"This polished, modern red offers alluring aromas of lilac, cocoa and spice that follow through on the palate, picking up flavors of blackberry, mineral and toast. There's plenty of backbone behind the plush texture. The wine is fresh, harmonious and balanced. Drink now through 2024. 300 cases made." –TM, July 2013

Bodegas LAN Rioja Edicion Limitada 2013 Spanish Red Wine 750 mL

Tasting notes Bright cherry with dark ruby hues. Aromas of forest fruits (plum, redcurrant) combined with sweet spices (clove, fennel) and mineral hints -a result of the combination of frank-clay, sand and alluvial soils in our "Vina Lanciano" vineyard-. Structured and fleshy, this modern Rioja's vibrancy comes as a result of the fruit shining again on the palate. Long and persistent finish.

Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2013 White Burgundy Wine 750 mL
Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2013 White Burgundy Wine 750 mL

92+ Wine Advocate January 2016 The 2013 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a very pretty bouquet, backward of course, but opening with hints of white peach and white flowers, the oak succinctly integrated. The palate is crisp and taut with a keen line of acidity, the 2014 is quite saline-like, with hints of ginger and spice furnishing the finish. This is a very fine Corton-Charlemagne that sits comfortably at the upper end of my banded score from last year. It may improve even further with continued bottle age. -Neal Martin

95 points Vinous Media September 2016

"Very sexy aromas of apple, wild herbs, spices and soil. Boasts outstanding breadth and sweetness, with lovely savory complexity to the flavors of medicinal herbs, citrus fruits and powdered stone. Really superb tension in the mouth here. The echoing, building finish conveys an impression of outstanding density and a strong saline character. Showing spectacularly today but it's hard to believe that this wine won't shut down in bottle at some point." Stephen Tanzer

Cade Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 2013 Napa Valley California Red Wine 750mL

92 Points from Wine Advocate! eRobertParker.com, #222 December, 2015

"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Malbec and 15% Petit Verdot, tipping the scales at 15.1% alcohol) has an inky purple color, a beautiful nose of blueberry and blackberry fruit, licorice and spring flowers. It is complex, rich, full-bodied, opulent, sexy and lush. This is a 2013 to drink now, as well as cellar for 10-15+ years. Drink 2016-2031."

Rated 93 Points from Vinous Media! October, 2015

"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is deep, plush and inviting, with a rush of fruit that takes hold of all the senses. Voluptuous and super-expressive, the 2013 is sure to find many fans. Inky blue and purplish fruit, spices, mint and white pepper are all laced together in a sumptuous, inviting wine. Mocha, plum and blueberry jam are some of the notes that grace the supple, open-knit finish. This is an especially accessible Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, but I doubt there will be too many complaints about that. Drink 2017-2028." - Antonio Galloni

Rated 92 Points from Wine Spectator! Online only, 2016

"Though firm and dense, this is charming and agreeable already, with dried dark berry, sage and cedary oak flavors folding together. Appealing suppleness. Drink now through 2028. 6,558 cases made." -JL
