Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Rochioli Riverblock Vineyard 2012 Red California Wine
Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Rochioli Riverblock Vineyard 2012 Red California Wine
94 Points from International Wine Cellar!

"Alluring Bing cherry and vanilla immediately jump from the glass but give way to deeper notes of smoked meats, grilled herbs and minerals. The 2012 Rochioli Riverblock Pinot Noir shows intensity on the palate that is nearly unmatched in the Russian River Valley, though the wine manages to retain a sense of restraint with its elegant, silky tannins and long finish. This vintage is a classic in the making and can be cellared for 7-10 years." -- Williams Selyem

Winemaker’s Notes

The 2014 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir exhibits dark cherry and cinnamon spice at its core. Faded rose, nutmeg and allspice complement the subtle notes of porcini and Oolong tea. Tightly wound on the palate at first, the wine expands out onto the mid-palate to deliver some wonderfully refreshing red fruits, citrus, and tea-like tannins. With its polish and grace, this wine exemplifies the beauty and power of a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. It can be enjoyed in its youth or cellared for 3-6 years.

The Vineyards

The Pinot Noir for this blend was from our Drake Estate Vineyard, our Williams Selyem Estate Vineyard and the Bacigalupi Vineyard.

Harvest 2014

Continuing the string of great vintages, 2014 completes the trifecta of extremely high quality growing seasons. The 2014s exhibit a great purity of place, with generous fruit and elegant textures. The 2014 growing season started out as one of the driest winters on record with only 40% of normal rainfall by mid-season. Due to the extremely dry conditions over the winter months, many of the vineyards were irrigated in December and January to ensure the vines had enough moisture, effectively mimicking winter rainfall. It was another early bud break season; almost 14 days earlier than “normal.” When rain in early April finally appeared it helped replenish the soil’s moisture profile to re-invigorate the plants and boost growth. May brought flowering, as expected, and fruit set was bountiful overall for a third straight year. The harvest season was near perfect with warm temperatures, which allowed for a leisurely picking schedule. 2014 was a wonderful growing season that has yielded another fine set of wines that speak of the place. In short, 2014 is another superb vintage of compelling nature and should allow for long-range cellaring for those to choose to age their wines for 7- 10 years.

93 Points - International Wine Cellar, May/June 2011
"Bright ruby. Heady, expansive bouquet of raspberry compote, cherry-vanilla and gingerbread, with notes of white pepper and licorice in the background. Smooth and fleshy in the mouth, offering sweet red and dark berry flavors and nuances of candied flowers and herbs. Pretty hefty but by no means thick--in fact this is pretty lithe. Finishes with very good clarity and smoky, floral persistence." -Josh Raynolds

"Bright red. Very pure, lively aromas of black raspberry, violet, licorice and bitter chocolate. Dense, spicy and sweet but almost weightless, offering nuanced flavors of dark berries and flowers complicated by bitter chocolate and woodsmoke. The persistent, floral-tinged finish features silky, fine-grained tannins and very good energy." -Josh Raynolds

"The Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir aroma seems to jump from the glass with wild berry notes of alpine strawberry, blackberry, and subtle hints of blueberry and pomegranate. These fruit elements marry extremely well with the deeper bass notes and complement the oak spices and hints of grilled herbs. The palate is equally matched with a depth in complexity that rivals the aroma. The wild berry fruit profile gives way to a vibrant acidity and a wonderfully integrated tannin profile with a surprisingly delicate floral lift on the finish. The bright Sonoma Coast acidity is balanced by the velvety, rich finish. The 2012 Sonoma Coast would be the perfect accompaniment to a grilled squab or grilled saddle of rabbit." -The Winery

Winemaker’s Notes

Highlighted by dark cherry aromas with hints of bramble and underbrush, the 2014 Sonoma Coast offers a full gamut of fruit and savory notes. Crushed rocks and pencil shavings further add to the overall complexity. The texture in the mouth is compelling with a nice interplay of acidity and mouth-filling tannins. Flavors of black cherry and pomegranate are juxtaposed with hints of toasted walnut and bergamot. The palate is punctuated by cherry pit and a lovely floral lift, leaving a lasting impression in the mouth. Please make sure to hold onto a few bottles for the long haul.

Winemaker’s Notes

An enticing nose of cola and sassafras are intertwined with notes of fresh rose petals, red raspberries and strawberries. A grilled herb aromatic complements the fruit aromas and adds a wonderful sense of savory intrigue. The palate is compact with an explosion of black cherry, nutmeg and cinnamon flavors while the elegant, polished tannins extend to the finish. The freshness of the acidity maintains the rather lithe quality to the texture. Recommended cellaring for 3-4 years.

Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Terre de Promissio 2012 Red California Wine
"This wine has an expressive bouquet of cherry pie, raspberries, fennel, Asian spices and truffles. The heavier clay/loam soils add a textural component to the velvety tannins and rich flavors of wild raspberries, Bing cherries, cola, mushrooms and mocha coffee. This is a very sexy Pinot with lush textures and vibrant acidity — our second offering from this cool site in the Petaluma Wind Gap region of the Sonoma Coast appellation. The acid frames this wine brilliantly and gives it a tremendous amount of focus. This is a wine that will improve nicely in the cellar for 5+ years." -The Winery

A wine of precision and understatement, the 2014 Pinot Noir Vista Verde Vineyard offers up generous sweet red and bluish-hued berry flavors, with good supporting acidity and nuance to match. The Vista Verde is one of the smaller-scaled Pinots. Here it is the wine's balance that impresses most. A closing kick of acidity adds brightness and energy.
