Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Allen Vineyard 2013 Red California Wine
Winemaker's Notes:
Juicy strawberry and black cherry are complemented perfectly with citrus and creamy vanilla elements. Complex notes of cinnamon, crushed rocks and earthy tea add to the elegant nose that is Allen Vineyard Pinot Noir. Red flowers and red cherry provide an immediate lift in the mouth, which give way to highly polished tannins and an Oolong tea feel. This wine has a staying power that lingers on and on. The old vines on this site produce an incredible concentration on the nose and palate, which is unparalleled.

Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Bucher Vineyard 2013
Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Bucher Vineyard 2013
Winemaker’s Notes
This vintage of the Bucher Vineyard Pinot Noir is deep and brooding at first but develops with some air, revealing lighter top-notes of red raspberry and strawberry. Saddle leather, tar and grilled rosemary sprigs complete the aromatic fireworks. Round and soft on the palate, there is enough acidity to provide cling and extend the red fruit flavor profile into the finish, which is highlighted with elements of smoked game meats and espresso roast coffee beans.

The Vineyard
The Bucher Vineyard is located about 1 ½ miles north of our winemaking facility on Westside Road. The clones planted include 777, 115, 37, and Pommard 4, with an Arbuckle gravely loam soil.

Harvest 2013
With great back-to-back vintages, 2013 was every bit as good as 2012 has proven to be. Amidst concerns about another drought year, the rain gauges filled up to about 80% of the yearly average. The growing conditions were very favorable, which resulted in a remarkably similar growing season to the exceptional 2012 vintage. The only notable difference, however, was the increase of heat units in 2013, as measured by the Growing Degree Day index. With below average rainfall for the season bud break initiated earlier than average along Westside Road. April showers helped to drive good shoot growth and set the plants up for May flowering. Excellent weather at flowering time allowed for fantastic set and a bountiful yield across all appellations and varieties. Even with an earlier start to the growing season, the grapes had the ideal amount of time on the vine to achieve full maturity without any threat of inclement weather late in the season. Wines from the 2013 vintage exhibit extremely pure and polished tannins and the acidity will provide longevity, but the supple structure also offers earlier enjoyment.

94 Points from International Wine Cellar!

"Located in the far end of the Anderson Valley, referred to as the "deep end", Burt Williams' Morning Dew Ranch sits in an ideal cool climate location for Pinot Noir. This is a highly expressive wine, rich in aromatics with notes of pomegranate, orange, allspice and vanilla. Additional layers of ginger, pencil lead and minerals complete the intense profile. Round and supple in the mouth, the seamless acidity carries the flavors and the fine grained tannins effortlessly into the long finish. This is another impressive vintage from Burt Williams' Morning Dew Ranch, which will improve with an additional 7-10 years of aging." -- Williams Selyem

92 Points Vinous Media August 2016 "The 2013 Pinot Noir Burt Williams’ Morning Dew Ranch offers an attractive interplay of dense dark fruit and more savory, earthy notes that lurk beneath. Tobacco, menthol, incense and smoke contribute to the wine's dark, virile personality. The 2013 could use another year or more in bottle, but I expect it will always remain rather brooding in personality." Antonio Galloni

Winemaker's Notes Explosive aromatics of black cherry, pomegranate and elderberry immediately emerge from the glass, while subtle touches of mandarin orange and vanilla keep the nose fresh. A surprising note of nectarine further adds to the complex aroma. Fleshy on the palate, there is weight without heaviness, owing to the balanced acidity. In the mouth, minerals and finely textured tannin seem to cling to the palate and finish with a spicy cherry pit impression. Again, patience is required in this glorious effort.

Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Burt Williams' Morning Dew Ranch Vineyard 2014 Red California Wine 750 mL

93 Vinous Media August 2016

"The 2014 Pinot Noir Burt Williams’ Morning Dew Ranch brings together the depth and raciness that is typical of Anderson Valley with soaring aromatics that add nuance. Sweet tobacco, spice, herb, crushed flowers and dark stone fruits abound in an expressive, beautifully layered Pinot endowed with tons of class and nuance. Next to the Ferrington, Williams-Selyem's other Anderson Valley Pinot, the Morning Dew is more savory and earth-driven in profile. -Antonio Galloni

The Vineyard "This 40-acre property in the “deep end” of the Anderson Valley has 13 acres planted to Pinot Noir. In 2000, the land was cleared and planted to cuttings from the Rochioli vineyard, DRC suitcase selections from adjacent vineyards, clone 23, and Dijon clones 115, 777 and 828. The vineyard has Franciscan soils, clay underlain with sandstone." - The Winery

Winemaker’s Notes

On the nose, the Central Coast is quite reticent at first but opens up with elements of plum and hoisin sauce. With some air, notes of black cherry and pomegranate emerge from the glass with a subtle lift of cocoa powder and vanilla bean. The palate bursts with cherry and plum flavors. The weight on the mid-palate gives way to the prototypical chalky, mineral flavor profile of wines from this site. The wine finishes with a wonderful cherry pit and coffee bean impression. The 2014 is a sensational offering that can be enjoyed in the near term.

The Vineyard

100% Vista Verde Vineyard, located a couple miles south-east of Hollister, California, near the small town of Tres Pinos in San Benito County. This heavy limestone vineyard is separated into nine blocks that include clones such as Pommard, Calera, Canada, 667, Mt. Eden, and Swan.

Harvest 2014

Continuing the string of great vintages, 2014 completes the trifecta of extremely high quality growing seasons. The 2014s exhibit a great purity of place, with generous fruit and elegant textures. The 2014 growing season started out as one of the driest winters on record with only 40% of normal rainfall by mid-season. Due to the extremely dry conditions over the winter months, many of the vineyards were irrigated in December and January to ensure the vines had enough moisture, effectively mimicking winter rainfall. It was another early bud break season; almost 14 days earlier than “normal.” When rain in early April finally appeared it helped replenish the soil’s moisture profile to re-invigorate the plants and boost growth. May brought flowering, as expected, and fruit set was bountiful overall for a third straight year. The harvest season was near perfect with warm temperatures, which allowed for a leisurely picking schedule. 2014 was a wonderful growing season that has yielded another fine set of wines that speak of the place. In short, 2014 is another superb vintage of compelling nature and should allow for long-range cellaring for those to choose to age their wines for 7- 10 years.

Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Central Coast 2012 Red California Wine
"This wine has a fresh, perfumed nose of spice, floral components and dark cherries. As it opens up in the glass, there is a bright, red fruit nose with a hint of earth, nutmeg, fennel and toffee, which are characteristic of this vineyard site. Luscious flavors of dark cherries, strawberry, sassafras, violets and caramel give way to the poised acidity. Elements of cedar, baking spices and vanilla add to the complexity. The rich, textural mouthfeel helps to carry the fat, plump tannins that follow long through into the finish." -The Winery

"High above the town of Occidental on the Coast Range, the Coastlands Vineyard is influenced by ocean fog and cool breezes. The results are compelling, offering diverse aromatics and flavors. Deep in color, notes of black cherry, tree bark and sandalwood rise from the glass while nutmeg and other wood spices contribute to the complexity of this wine. The refined tannins make for a round, plush wine with a lift of acidity to maintain the focus -- a truly unique site which produces a very small amount of fruit." -- Williams Selyem
