Long Island is known for many things, some more accurate than others (we don’t all have that “Lawn Guyland” accent, you know!). Did you know that the East End of Long Island is replete with very fine vineyards and wineries? New York wine is having a moment, and wines from Long Island are a big part of this Empire State wine resurgence.

Mora’s carries a wide selection of fantastic Long Island wines, and we’re proud to have a great relationship with many of the vineyards out east. Today we’re featuring some of our favorite Long Island wines – and all are under $25!

Mora’s Presents: Fun Wines that AREN’T Going to Win an Academy Award

Specialty Wines, Wine & Spirits in The News? Comments Off on Mora’s Presents: Fun Wines that AREN’T Going to Win an Academy Award
As the Academy Awards approach us, we got to thinking of Mora’s cool selection of wines with awesome pulp-movie labels. Not only do they taste great, they look pretty cool on your shelf!
Keep scrolling to learn more about these fun wines, and an extra wine that’s great to eat with popcorn – because it tastes LIKE popcorn!

Misfits Wine released Cycle Buff Beauty wine to wide acclaim. Rated 90 points and on sale for an affordable $18, it’s full of dark fruit and cola flavors that are sharpened by a hint of black pepper. It usually sells out pretty quickly, so make sure you snag a bottle now.

Beware of the alluring blonde on the front of this label – she looks innocent, but she’ll seduce you, beat you over the head with a frying pan, rob you blind, and drive off in her trailer. The wine, on the other hand, isn’t so bad. Rated 90 points by International Wine Seller, it starts with delicious aromas of cassis, berries, and spice. The flavor is round and sweet, with a little hint of pepper. A great wine for an excellent price!
Deep on the bottom of the ocean lives a terrifying creature that will crush the ship and soul of any unsuspecting sailor that dares cross its path. The only way to cope with this horror is by pouring yourself a generous glass of the Some Young Punks “The Squid’s Fist” wine. It starts with an expressive bouquet and has strong, bold fruit flavors with a long, zesty finish. Described by its reviewer as “dangerously gluggable,” you won’t want to miss out on this gem!
Don’t be distracted by its racy label – Naked on Roller Skates is delicious enough to stand (or skate) on its own. Rated 90 points by Vinous Media, it’s fully of juicy, deep flavors of fruit liqueur and chocolate. It finishes with smooth tannins and a satisfying length. *Moras is not responsible for any unclothed-on-rollerskates activity that results from drinking too much of this wine in one sitting.
Drink this wine with popcorn because it TASTES like popcorn! Rated 94 points,This is a true wine geek’s wine it is amazing. The current vintage is 2006, it is aged in BARREL for 4 YEAR before botling. The slow oxidation gives it the character of an aged Graves with amazing flavors or popcorn, toasted nuts and dried fruits. Definitely a wine of contemplation. Enjoy it at your Oscars party as you place bets on who’s going to wine Best Picture!

Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines

Specialty Wines, Wine & Spirits in The News? Comments Off on Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines
Whether you’re in #NewYearNewMe mode or whether your New Year’s resolution was to drink more wine, you can’t deny that one of the best things about 2016 was the vino.

Wine Spectator agrees. Each year they put out their list of Top 100 Wines, and Mora’s was lucky enough to snag a few of them for you – we even have THREE wines from the Top 10!

The Barbaresco Italian Red is the #5 selection from the Top 100 List. Rated at a stellar 96 points, this beauty is practically perfect in every way. Get ready for delicious and deep fruit, cola, and licorice aromas, with an unmistakable hint of white truffle. Its balance is seamless, its flavors sensual and expressive. You don’t want to miss out on this one!

Another elegant red, this time the Orin Swift Machete red out of California. It’s #6 on the top 100 List! You’ll first notice its deep red, nearly black color. Inside that sultry shade are ripe blueberry and candied plum aromas that lead to layered, sexy cassis flavors. It has a nice, long, toasty finish with hints of dark chocolate.

This manly Tuscan red, #8 on the Top 100 List, begins with masculine aromas of graphite, smoke, and tobacco that coalesce into a deep cherry flavor. Its long finish rides out with herbal and spice elements. If this wine were a person, he would have an impeccably tailored three-piece suit, drive a Ferrari, and try to steal your girlfriend.

When a wine has a label like this and a name like “Carnival of Love,” you know you’re in for a good time. This gorgeous Shiraz out of Australia is sure to become a regular in your wine cellar! Expressive, explosive, and bold, at its core are ripe and juicy plum and cherry flavors. Get ready for the carnival of flavors to follow on the finish: licorice, Earl Grey tea, even gingerbread meld together for a truly unique tasting experience.

A Top 100 wine for under $17? Yeah, we’re serious. This one was rated 90 points, and you’d be crazy not to pick up a bottle or two! It’s #61 on the Top 100 List. Don’t be fooled by its initial richness – it’s balanced by a vivacious acidity. The bright lemon, melon, and apple flavors dance down your palate to a tangy finish. Save up a few bottles to pair with your summer lemon meringue pies or meyer lemon tarts.

Another steal at under $26! Rated 92 points, and #68 on the Top 100 List. Definitely not an overly fruity pinot noir – this Lemelson Vineyards gem is way more sophisticated than that. Its lingonberry and floral flavors deftly balance the juicier cherry notes.

Mora’s hosted its Autumn Grand Tasting event at Madiran Wine Bar of East Setauket on October 22nd. It was a SMASHING success!

The event was totally sold out over a week before, so we definitely had a full house. Our favorite wine consultants were behind Madiran’s bars, serving up their best selections to our enthusiastic guests. There was a huge range of wines served for all different palates, and guests were able to order their favorites right there at the event.

Madiran’s craft kitchen served delicious hors d’oeuvres throughout the event. If you haven’t been to Madiran yet, you need to stop by! It’s such a gorgeous spot, right in the heart of Setauket.
The Three Village Historical Society had their Spirits Tour the same evening, and “Spirit” William Davis was there to greet guests as well. Mora’s livestreamed the event on Facebook and Instagram, so if you missed out, head to our social media pages to see more!

We’ve included some photos of the event below, and if you’re bummed that you missed out, stay tuned for news of our upcoming Spring Tasting – or stop by the shop every week on Saturdays from 3-6 for our free tasting events!
