5, 4, 3, 2, 1… HAPPY NEW YEAR!
It’s almost New Year’s Eve, and our FREE weekly tasting is happening on December 31st from 3-6.

We’re featuring some of our favorite sparkling wines from all over the world: France, Australia, Italy, California, even Spain!
We’re open 10 AM – 9 PM on December 30, 10 AM – 9 PM on December 31st, and 12 PM – 5 PM on January 1!

So what’s on the lineup this week?
We’re starting with a traditional champagne from France. Don’t think that champagne costs an arm and a leg – the Duval-Leroy is on sale for less than $36! It’s the Catherine Deneuve of champagne: sophisticated and seductive. With rich honey flavors and a ginger-tinged aftertaste, it’s going to quickly be added to your list of favorites!
Don’t underestimate methode traditionelle sparkling wines made outside of France. The Majolini Italian sparkling wine is one of the best entry-level sparklers on the market. It has bright green apple and peach flavors.
Australia’s Taltarni Tache sparkling rosé is always on our go-to list. It has vivid color and gorgeous raspberry flavors. It’s on sale for under $16!
If you’re hosting a New Year’s Eve party and need to stock up on sparkling wine without breaking the bank, we recommend the Chandon Brut from California. On sale for under $16, it has gorgeously layered flavors of cinnamon, vanilla, and anise.
For a more zesty sparkling wine, go with the Sonim Cava from Spain. On sale for less than $12, it has peppery citrus aromas with tangy herbal flavors.
We hope to see you Saturday from 3-6 for our free tasting! If you can’t make it, you can always shop our weekly specials online!

The Showstopper

The Sexy Italian Racecar of Wines

So what’s on the lineup this week?
IF YOU LIKE SPARKLING WINE:
The Majolini Brut Cuvee is one of the finest methode champenoise wines to come out of Italy. With bright flavors of white peach and green apple, it’s perfect for New Year’s Eve. Or Christmas Eve. Or Birthday Eve. Or even Monday Eve. Any Eve, really!
IF YOU LIKE RED WINE:
This week’s showstopper is the Amarone. A rich, intense red, it’s won a slew of wine awards for its deep chocolate and fruit flavors and silky finish.
The Negro Giuseppe red wine is like a sexy Italian racecar in a bottle. Solid, lean, and exquisitely balanced, it’s got tight flavors and a compact finish. Rated 86 points and on sale for under $18!
If you’re doing a traditional Italian Christmas Eve celebration, you’re gonna need a sturdy and flavorful wine to stand up to all the Italian food!

This Giovanni Cabernet has rich, depth flavors with a licorice-scented palate.  It pairs perfectly with red meat like steak and meatballs, and is on sale for under $17!

Likewise, the Il Palazzo Chianti pairs perfectly with tomato-sauce-based dishes. At less than $17 per bottle, you can afford to bring a few to share with the whole family!
If you want to bring a special hostess gift, the Maggiovini Sicilian red is an excellent option. With deep, dark cherry color and a hint of delicious spice, it’s a perfect choice for the holiday season.

We hope to see you FRIDAY from 4-7 for our free tasting! If you can’t make it, you can always shop our weekly specials online!

Aveleda Alvarinho for making latkes with your mom

Antiche Terre Venete for watching the Yule Log with your Uncle Mick

So what’s on the lineup this week?
FOR BAKING
CHRISTMAS COOKIES:
Our first recommendation when baking Christmas cookies is to get a bottle of wine. Baking sounds fun at first, then before you know it there’s a huge mess in the kitchen and a tray full of burnt gingerbread men that you forgot in the oven. The Chateau Lestruelle Bordeaux is nicely toasty, with vanilla and espresso notes. It’s got a nice, long finish and is perfect to pair with cookies fresh out of the oven. (We strongly believe in the one-for-me, one-for-you method of cookie baking).
FOR MAKING LATKES:
Your mom makes the best latkes on the planet and always wants you to help out. Bring over a bottle of incredibly-priced, highly-rated Aveleda Alvarinho white wine. For under $12/bottle, you can grab one for mom and one for you. Its fresh, uncomplicated taste is perfect for sipping, and wine always makes family bonding more fun.
FOR WRAPPING THE MOUNTAIN OF GIFTS YOU’VE BOUGHT FOR YOUR KIDS:
Before having kids, you swore that you wouldn’t be one of “those” parents – the type that spoiled their kids with a zillion Christmas gifts. A few years later, their cute little faces got the best of you, and now you have a pile of gifts to wrap at 11 PM on Christmas Eve. We recommend picking up a bottle of Cortes de Cima Portuguese wine.  It’s got some smoke and spice to get you in the holiday spirit, with delicious texture and depth.
FOR WATCHING THE YULE LOG WITH THE FAMILY:
Where did this weird custom come from? You sit with your family and watch a log burning on the TV. For some reason, Uncle Mick always makes you do this on Christmas Eve, so you might as well drink wine while you do it. The
Antiche Terra Italian Red is a great choice. It’s bold, delicious, and smoothly textured.
FOR WHEN THEY BRING YOU SOME FIGGY PUDDING:
Mmmm… figgy pudding. The holiday dish famously referenced in “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” Who knew that it could be so delicious? The Pocas Junior Portuguese dessert wine pairs beautifully with figgy pudding, or any of your favorite Christmas dessert. It’s flowery and fruity with enticing peppery flavors. It also makes an incredible gift!
We hope to see you Saturday from 3-6 for our free tasting! If you can’t make it, you can always shop our weekly specials online!

Yee-Haw! Saddle Up for December’s Whiskey Wednesday!

Free Weekly Saturday Wine (and sometimes spirits) Tastings, Weekly Wine & Spirit Specials, Whiskey Wednesday Comments Off on Yee-Haw! Saddle Up for December’s Whiskey Wednesday!
It’s our favorite time of the month – our monthly FREE Whiskey Wednesday tasting! It’s taking place on 12/14 from 4-7 PM at the shop.
This month, saddle up for a full line of High West Whiskies out of Utah – and if you’re lucky, a special treat from Cowboy Rich’s secret stash!
Keep scrolling to see the whole lineup, and if your horse can’t gallop over to the shop in time for the tasting, you can always get the deals online!

So what’s on the lineup this month?
High West American Prairie Bourbon:
A blend of three different Kentucky Whiskies in a top-secret ratio, this Bourbon is perfect for a day of herding cattle across the prairie. As you sit in your cozy armchair in your comfy suburban home, you can take a sip of this red-blooded Bourbon and feel like a genuine cowboy!
High West Distillery Double Rye:
The only thing better than Rye is a Double Rye. High West expertly paired a wild, untamed two-year-old Rye with a more mellow, smooth sixteen-year-old Rye.
The 2-year-old has a 95% rye 5% barley malt mashbill. The older rye has a “barely legal” rye mashbill of 53% rye and 37% corn.
High West Distillery BOURYE:
You don’t need fancy book-learnin’ to figure out that High West’s BOURYE is a blend of premium American Bourbon and Rye. Legend has it that cowboys used to use whiskey like this to lure the elusive (and some say mythical, but what do they know?) Jackalope, which would get tipsy on whiskey and then be easier to hunt.
High West Distillery Campfire Whiskey:
It gets chilly in them ‘thar hills after a day out on the prairie, and the High West Campfire Whiskey is perfect to pass around the campfire and tell tall tales of Jackalope hunting. With complex caramel flavors and subtle smoke, it’s definitely a keeper. You might not want to share it.
High West Distillery Rendezvous Rye:
A full-flavored and complex offering created by blending a sweet, smooth sixteen-year-old whiskey and a bold, spicy six-year-old whiskey. A classic Rye, the Rendezvous is perfect for when you sidle up to the bar at the saloon and catch the eye of a pretty barmaid for a wild west Rendezvous!
High West Distillery Yippee Ki Yay Rye:
Yippee Ki Yay is really the star of the show. It’s smooth enough to enjoy as an apertif or even drizzled over a delicious dessert. It’s also great in a Manhattan. This is for the sophisticated cowboy!
We hope to see you on 12/14 from 4-7 for our Whiskey Wednesday tasting –
and you can always snag the deals online!

sonoma pip chardonnay on sale

FOR YOUR ANNOYINGLY CHIC SISTER-IN-LAW
Her favorite thing to receive is Hermes scarves, but you’re not about to drop a few hundred bucks on a tertiary family member. She’s thin, tidy, perfectly groomed, and is always drinking white wine. Why not get her a bottle or two of the Pip Chardonnay? Elegant and fresh, your annoyingly chic sister-in-law will love it and probably write you a really nice thank you note on monogrammed stationary.
FOR THE GUY YOU’VE BEEN DATING FOR A FEW WEEKS:
You guys met online right before Thanksgiving and have been casually seeing each other since then. He’s not quite your boyfriend, but more than a friend. It would be weird to get him something too nice, but also weird to get him nothing at all for the holidays.
What about a bottle of Iuli Umberta Barbera red wine? Aromatic and savory, it screams “Italy.”Nice enough to acknowledge your relationship but not too nice that you’re being weirdly clingy, either. Was dating this hard in our grandparents’ generation?!
FOR THE ITALIAN AUNT THAT INSISTS SHE DOESN’T WANT ANYTHING:

Your favorite Italian aunt always shows up to your Christmas Eve party with a full antipasto platter and ten thousand Italian Christmas cookies (all homemade, of course). She insists every year that you shouldn’t get her anything, but you really want to show your appreciation.

Arndorfer Vorgeschmack Red to the rescue! Like Thanksgiving in a bottle, it’s bursting with delicious flavors of fruity cranberry. Just like your aunt: kind of sweet, but also with some sass.
FOR YOUR HIPSTER YOUNGER BROTHER:
Your hipster younger brother recently moved to Portland to work for an artisanal mayonnaise shop (yes, apparently that’s a real thing). He plays kazoo in a funk band. He’s basically impossible to shop for.
Mora’s to the rescue with Love and Squalor Pinot Noir!  Made right in his new home state of Oregon, it’s got a cool label that your brother can repurpose into an artisanal reclaimed something, and more importantly, a rich and delicious fruity flavor.
FOR YOUR WORK HUSBAND (OR WIFE):

Everyone has a “work spouse.” The cubicle mate who’s your best pal at the office, who makes those annoying conference calls a little more bearable, who picks you up coffee sometimes on the way into the office. It’s like a totally platonic marriage, just at work. Your work husband or wife deserves a nice “thank you” this year, and the Fravalato red wine from Italy is a great way to say, “Thanks for making this job stink a little bit less.”

We hope to see you Saturday from 3-6 for our free tasting! If you can’t make it, you can always shop our weekly specials online!

It’s Beginning to Taste A Lot Like Christmas!

Free Weekly Saturday Wine (and sometimes spirits) Tastings, Specialty Wines, Wine & Spirit Events Comments Off on It’s Beginning to Taste A Lot Like Christmas!
The holidays are here! It’s the perfect time of year to try new wines and go back to old favorites.
This week at our free weekly tasting, we’re featuring great wines that are packed with holiday flavors.
 Whether you like
RED WINE
OR SPARKLING WINE,
we’ve hand-selected a gorgeous assortment for your tasting pleasure!
Keep scrolling to learn more about these wines, and as always, if you can’t make the tasting in person, you can still snag the deals online!
So what’s on the lineup this week?
IF YOU LIKE RED WINE:
Santa Baby! If you’re in a sexy Christmas mood, Michael David Lust Zinfandel definitely lives up to its provocative name. It’s a decadent, velvety offering that pairs deliciously with rich chocolate desserts. Each taste reminds you of Eartha Kitt purring her very expensive Christmas list in your ear.
If you have a long list of holiday parties to attend this year, you should definitely stock up on the 6th Sense Syrah, on sale for under $16. It has spicy cinnamon and cedar aromas and big, broad, chocolatey flavors that’ll make you the most popular ugly-sweater-party guest around!
If Buddy the Elf from beloved Christmas movie “Elf” were a wine, he would be the Michael David Petite Petit. Each sip brings an explosion of color and fun. It’s a big, supremely flavorful wine that’s not short on spectacle.
For a softer Christmas feel, kind of like Ella Fitzgerald crooning the classics on the record player, we recommend the Michael David Seven Deadly Sins Zinfandel.  Lush and voluptuous, its deep flavors sway across your tongue. An incredible value at under $15!
IF YOU LIKE SPARKLING WINE:
The Scharffenberger sparkling wine is the most Christmassy sparkling wine around. Cinnamon, anise, and ginger flavors are balanced by lemony citrus flavors – like a pile of Christmas cookies in a glass!
We hope to see you Saturday from 3-6 for our free tasting! If you can’t make it, you can always shop our weekly specials online!

PICTURE THIS:

It’s the dead of winter. There’s two feet of snow outside your door, yet it still keeps falling. You’ve spent half the day shoveling the driveway with no end in sight. You’re pretty sure you’ll never feel the warmth of the sun again.

Then – a sound at the front door. What could it be? Is there any joy left in this cold, miserable world?

Hark! It’s here! Your monthly club package from Mora’s! You grab the package and blow your delivery elf a jubilant kiss.

You tear the packaging off and carefully unpack your
full bottle of craft liquor (if you’re in the Spirits Club)
or
two bottles of fine wine (if you’re in the Wine Club).

You read the enclosed info packet with mirth. You forget about the snow piling up outside your door.
Aren’t you glad you signed up for Mora’s Spirits Club or Wine Club as a holiday gift to yourself?
