The Best Wines with Your Thanksgiving Feast!

Food & Wine Comments Off on The Best Wines with Your Thanksgiving Feast!

best wines with Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is almost here! It’s one of our favorite holidays of the year, and we’re excited to share wine pairings for our favorite Thanksgiving dishes.
And don’t forget – WE’RE OPEN ON THANKSGIVING FROM 9:00 – 3:00!

FOR SAVORY STUFFING: You need a white wine with some guts – we recommend Jermann Pinot Grigio or Spesso Pinot Bianco. You could also select a Chardonnay.
FOR YOUR TURKEY: Turkey is the star of the show, so you need a great wine to go with it. We like the Tavistock Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara. You could also get a nice, classic Merlot.
FOR YOUR PUMPKIN PIE: On sale this week, the Alvear Pedro Ximenez is deep and unctuous. It pairs perfectly with the pumpkin pie spices!
FOR YOUR APPLE PIE: For apple pie, we recommend either choosing a light riesling or going with a whiskey. Our Iron Smoke whiskey has apple and baking spice notes in it, perfectly complementing a fresh apple pie.

So what’s on the lineup this week?
IF YOU LIKE RED WINE:
Up first is an ruby red Italian wine. Lush aromas of tobacco and juicy plum are complemented by mellow plum and mineral flavors. Rich and stylish, this Italian beauty is the Sophia Loren of wines.
Rated a whopping 98 points by Wine Advocate, our next selection is first in its class. The NV Pedro Ximenez Solera is a deep, dense, textured wine with incredible caramel, molasses, and coffee flavors. It’s good through 2050, so snag a few cases and enjoy over the next thirty years.
Our next selection is a heady, fragrant Spanish red with a plush texture. Don’t let its exotic bouquet fool you – underneath are deep cherry cola and raspberry liqueur flavors that pack a rich and powerful punch.  It ends with a long, supple finish.
Next up is a deep, smoky, sexy Spanish red that scored a hefty 91 points by wine critics. It starts with candied cherry and pipe tobacco aromas, then delves into silky, spicy fruit flavors. Each sip transports you to back to the turn of the 20th century to a sexy, darkened flamenco hall somewhere in the Andalusian mountains.
Our final red is a great Chilean number that’s on sale for UNDER NINE DOLLARS. Seriously, you can’t afford to not at least try this one out. The sweetness of the dark chocolate and cherry flavors is well-balanced by notes of olive and currant.

IF YOU LIKE WHITE WINE:

If you’re in the mood for a white wine, this vibrant and energetic Spanish white is for you. It’s dominated by zesty citrus and peach flavors – perfect with key lime pie!
We hope to see you Saturday from 3-6 for our free tasting! If you can’t make it, you can always shop our weekly specials online!

So what’s on the lineup this month?
First up is the Laphroaig Cairdeas single malt Scotch. This 2016 bottling has an aroma of ripe oranges and sweet licorice with a peaty palate. Finishing with a spicy dryness, this smoky Scotch can’t be missed!
Next up is the Laphroaig Triple Wood Single Malt Scotch.  This gold-medal-winning Islay whisky has a buttery vanilla aroma and a spicy, savory palate. Enjoy it over the winter months next to the fireplace – with a few friends, if you’re feeling generous.
We’re also serving up an award-winning Islay single malt from Bowmore. Less smoky than the Laphroaigs, the Bowmore is a kindler, gentler whisky. Its first fill in ex-Bourbon casks gives it a hint of sweet vanilla, while its second fill enhances the creamy honey character. An excellent whisky to enjoy with dessert – or as dessert! “Hold the ice cream, honey – I’m on a diet! Just give me two fingers of Bowmore!”
Finally we come to our unique Japanese whisky, the Hibiki Harmony blended whisky. It’s delicate yet quite complex. You’ll first sense the layered aromas of sandalwood, rosemary, and lychee. The palate is sweet, with orange peel and white chocolate. It ends with a long, tender finish. A truly unique whisky that you have to try!
We hope to see you on November 16th from 4-7 for our tasting – if you can’t make it, you can always shop online!
