So what’s on the lineup this week?
The shining star of the lineup is a gorgeous French Burgundy, the Borgogne Rouge. It’s made of 100% Pinot Noir grapes, macerated for 3 days, and aged in concrete for 8 months. The result is a divine and fruity red, on sale for an excellent price this week!
Next up is an Austrian red, the Vorgeschmack. A cranberry-tinged blend of 80% Zweigelt and 20% Pinot Noir, it’s been described by reviewer Chris Troy as “Thanksgiving in a Bottle,”  “smooth, sexy, and unique,” the “wine equivalent of Norah Jones.” The perfect sultry red for a cozy night by the fire!
We’re also offering a great Slovenian red, an elegant and well-priced offering that’s a great accompaniment to warm autumn dinners.
Next up is the aforementioned Chardonnay, the Pip Sonoma Coast. This bright and lively white has been described as the “perfect Chardonnay” by reviewers. It’s slightly oaky, with an emphasis on acidity and freshness. On sale for under $16 this week!
Last but certainly not least is a deep, complex Cabernet Sauvignon from California. With flavors of black cherry and cassis balanced with peppery spice notes, it’s a total steal for just under $13 a bottle.
We hope to see you Saturday from 3-6 for our free tasting! If you can’t make it, you can always shop our weekly specials online!

Mora’s Grand Tasting – A Smashing Success!

Food & Wine, Wine & Spirit Events, Wine & Spirits in The News? Comments Off on Mora’s Grand Tasting – A Smashing Success!

Mora’s hosted its Autumn Grand Tasting event at Madiran Wine Bar of East Setauket on October 22nd. It was a SMASHING success!

The event was totally sold out over a week before, so we definitely had a full house. Our favorite wine consultants were behind Madiran’s bars, serving up their best selections to our enthusiastic guests. There was a huge range of wines served for all different palates, and guests were able to order their favorites right there at the event.

Madiran’s craft kitchen served delicious hors d’oeuvres throughout the event. If you haven’t been to Madiran yet, you need to stop by! It’s such a gorgeous spot, right in the heart of Setauket.
The Three Village Historical Society had their Spirits Tour the same evening, and “Spirit” William Davis was there to greet guests as well. Mora’s livestreamed the event on Facebook and Instagram, so if you missed out, head to our social media pages to see more!

We’ve included some photos of the event below, and if you’re bummed that you missed out, stay tuned for news of our upcoming Spring Tasting – or stop by the shop every week on Saturdays from 3-6 for our free tasting events!

Wine & Spirit Events Comments Off on Mora’s Weekly Free Tasting – October 22
This week, we’re switching it up! We’ll be doing our monthly free SPIRITS TASTING at the shop from 3-6 this week, instead of our weekly wine tasting.
We’ll be serving up three single-malt scotches, one blended scotch, and one great rum. To see the full lineup, keep scrolling!
And, remember, if you can’t make it in-person, you can ALWAYS pick up our weekly deals online!

So what’s on the lineup this week?
First up is Bunnahabhain Ceobanach, a rich, intense Islay single-malt scotch with hints of fragrant smoke. Layered with complex flavors of bitter orange, vanilla and sea salt, this is one to add to any whisky lover’s regular Scotch whisky lineup (and we’ll give you extra points if you can pronounce the name correctly on the first try!).
Next is another gem from Bunnahabhain, a whisky described as “the stuff tales are made of.” It starts with light fruit and nut flavors and deepens to include notes of toffee, vanilla fudge, and malty sweetness. On sale for an excellent price this week – a good one to stock up on for Christmas gifts!
Our third single-malt Scotch this week is a bit different from the Bunnahabhain offerings. The Deanston Highland Scotch whisky has not a hint of smoke: just warm, fresh, and creamy flavors with a crisp, satisfying finish.
We then move to the Black Bottle Blended Scotch, on sale for an excellent price for this week. Fresh and fruity with hints of peat, it has a long and warming finish.
Last but certainly not least is a great rum created by Angostura (yes, the same Angostura as the famed bitters). We’re offering their award-winning 1919 Aged Caribbean Rum at an excellent price for this week.
We hope to see you Saturday from 3-6 for our free tasting! If you can’t make it, you can always shop our weekly specials online!

Charles Heideseck Rose Champagne On Sale

Charles Heidsieck Rose Champagne:

This highly-rated gem is a true classic. Wine reviewer Roger Voss described it as, “A great wine, much more than only a Champagne, this is impressively rich and ripe, with crisp yellow fruits, spices and layers of toast. It’s in an opulent style that is round but also very focused on tight layers of fruit, minerality and final vivid acidity. A Cellar Selection.”  You can read our recent blog post on Charles Heidsieck (known as Champagne Charlie) here!

pol-roger-brut-reserve

Pol Roger Champagne:

This champagne is reasonably priced and highly rated. Described by reviewer Stephen Reinhardt as, “On the palate, this medium-bodied Brut is as round (if not pretty sweet) and fruit-driven as it is delicate, pure and very elegant. The mousse is deliciously fine and leads this charming and perfectly balanced fizz to a long, aromatic, stunningly dry and slightly mineral, impressively long finish.”

bollinger-champagne-brut-special-cuvee

Bollinger Champagne:

Rated 93 points, this classic champagne is an excellent addition to your wine collection. Described by its reviewer as, “- Aromatic, with accents of bread dough, smoked almond and creme de cassis, this creamy Champagne is lightly chalky in texture and framed by firm acidity, with flavors of glazed apricot, orange blossom and rich hints of clover honey and coffee liqueur.”

Weekly Wines – Week of October 15th

What’s on the lineup this week?
Some Young Punks Wine
The shining star is the 90-point Bellavista Cuvee Brut sparkling wine. It’s been described as the “finest entry-level methode Champenoise wine being made in Italy.” Perfect to stock up on if you drink a lot of nicer sparkling wine, but don’t want to spend a fortune on the “big” names all the time!
Australian winemakers Some Young Punks released The Squid’s Fist to widespread acclaim. The 2013 bottling we’re serving this week is a blend of 60% Shiraz and 40% Sangiovese. It’s packed with fruit flavors with an energetic finish, and has been described as “dangerously gluggable.”
Shinas Estate’s wines are always crowd-pleasers, and we’re excited to offer up their Executioner Red this week. With deep plum chocolate and spicy cassis flavors, this blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Vlognier tastes great now and will develop nicely over the years – definitely one to stock up on and let sit.
We have another Australian red that’s positively dripping with fruit flavors. Its herbal tones and peppercorn finish prevent it from being too one-note, and at under $17 for this week, is a huge steal.
Last but certainly not least is a 91-point Italian red that’s been described as dark, masculine, and brooding. Layered with fruity power, it has hints of espresso, mocha, and leather.  If you like your wines tall, dark, and handsome, this is the one for you!
We hope to see you Saturday from 3-6 for our free tasting! If you can’t make it, you can always shop our weekly specials online!

Wines of the Week – October 1

Free Weekly Saturday Wine (and sometimes spirits) Tastings, Weekly Wine & Spirit Specials, Wine & Spirit Events Comments Off on Wines of the Week – October 1
How are you feeling? Are you ready for a great weekend? We are! This Saturday at our FREE weekly wine tasting, we’re serving up a big time Grand Cru Bordeaux, a rich Chablis, and a neat assortment of fall temptations…
So what’s on the lineup this week?
The star this week is the
Chateau Berliquet Grand Cru Bordeaux. This highly rated wine is a polished gem with some subtle sweetness. Enjoy this bouquet of violet, licorice, and pepper with some warming autumnal treats!
Also from France comes a brilliant Chablis that works equally well as an aperitif or as a gorgeous accompaniment to seafood and sushi.  Please remember that Chablis also works beautifully with some bread, cheese and a scary movie!
#MorasDateNight idea – grab a bottle of this and some takeout from one of the great sushi restaurants in town!
From here in the states we are offering
A Washington Cabernet-Merlot that’s food-friendly and fruit-forward. Although this is 50% Cabernet, the remaining 50% boasts quite a few varietals including two of our own Carolyn’s favorites!  This makes for quite a full blend.  You will love taking this to parties, maybe the last barbecue of the season, or just home for dinner!
From California we are tasting a gutsy Rhone blend just made for October! This
highly-rated blend of Syrah, Petite Sirah, Grenache, and Vlognier  is supremely complex and layered with bold earthy tones. Enjoy this lovely 90 point rated red with just about anything!
To round out this great group we have
well-priced Sauvignon Blanc described by reviewers as “the best New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc under $15) and “truly exquisite.” When’s the last time you picked up a classic expression of very good New Zealand Sauv. Blanc  that was  for less than $12?
We hope to see you Saturday from 3-6 for our tasting!
