Inspired by the traditional and somewhat forgotten Sloe Gin, Steven has set out to create a regionally authentic version that is undeniably extraordinary. Turbinado sugar is added to balance the liqueur and provide it with depth and richness.” -Michael Skurnik Wines

altos-las-hormigas-altamira-2011

Altos Las Hormigas Appellation Altamira Malbec 2013 Argentine Red Wine–$38.24 SAVE 15%! (on sale through 5.3.16)

95 Points from Wine Advocate August 2015
“The 2013 Malbec Appellation Altamira is sourced from the alluvial terraces of the Tunuyán River in Altamira where the soils are very rich in calcium carbonate, the ideal for Altos las Hormigas in terms of elegance and minerality. The wine matured in untoasted 3,500-liter French oak foudres, like all in this range. There’s more peach here compared to the florals of the Gualtallary, and it feels a little less ripe than the Vista Flores. The palate is medium-bodied with good acidity and very fine tannins. It ends with a chalky minerality that sticks to your teeth. Great terroir Malbec at an incredible price.” – Robert Parker Jr.

“Ruby-red. Aromas of ripe red berries, candied rose, vanilla and pipe tobacco, with a mineral element contributing vivacity. Juicy, penetrating and gently sweet on the palate, offering vibrant raspberry and cherry flavors that deepen on the back half. Shows very good heft and power on a long, focused finish framed by harmonious, slow-building tannins.” – Josh Raynolds

raventos

Raventos i Blanc L’hereu Cava 2013 Spanish Sparkling Wine–$16.99 SAVE 15% (on sale through 5.3.16)

“L’Hereu is the “premier,” the finest symbol of how we like to work complexity in varieties and soils, with Macabeu as the structural base… The grapes are harvested by hand and rapidly delivered to the winery, where they are processed via a gravity flow system. At each stage of the production process the atmosphere is controlled by dry ice. Assemblage is followed by bottle fermentation and ageing for at least 15 months in the neck-down position. Blend: 40% Macabeo, 40% Xarel-lo and 20% Parellada” – Winemaker’s Notes

charles2k15rose

Charles & Charles Columbia Valley Rose 2015 Washington State Rose Wine–$11.89 SAVE 15% (on sale through 5.3.16)

“Made from mainly Syrah with Mourvedre, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Cinsault, and Counoise as well. The Charles and Charles Washington State Rose is quite simply an awesomely complex and complete Rose. The winemaking hasn’t changed a great deal over the years; so we attribute much of this complexity to the diversity of grape varieties and, even more, to the mix of vineyards that are increasingly on the very fringe of where these grapes can ripen. The color is vibrant pink, salmon and fuchsia edges. with wild red fruit of strawberry, raspberry and Bing cherry interwoven with Herbs de Provence and grass, a touch of citrus and an even greater presence of minerality.” – The Winery

Tasting Note: “Deep ruby colour with violet hints. Elegant and complex; nice wild berries character such as blue and blackberries coming from the Syrah, mingled with cassis, dark cherry and black pepper coming from the Cabernet sauvignon and Carménère. With great concentration and structure, all the fruit rush sits strongly over a structural and softly delicate drop of french oak, where the vanilla and spicy hints complements the juicy velvety fruity end.
