Orin Swift Locations E2
Orin Swift Locations E2–$16.79 SAVE 20%! (on sale through 07.24.14)
93 Points – Wine Advocate, #213 June 2014
“I reviewed these Locations offerings from Dave Phinney of Orin-Swift Cellars last year, who is going against all conventional wisdom of vineyard and vintage dating wines. Terroirists will claim the devil has possessed Phinney, as his offerings from France, Italy and Spain are all blends from different sectors of each country. If you judge wines on how they taste and the degree of pleasure they offer, they are all incredible efforts. The three new cuvees I tasted are among the finest wine values one could hope to find. Moreover, there are 50,000 cases of each, no easy feat given the grapes Phinney has accessed and the quality he has turned out. As of now, Dave Phinney might be my ‘value winemaker of the year’ candidate…” -Robert Parker

White peaches, spices, jasmine and pears are some of the many notes that flow in this striking, fabulous Moscato. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2103.” -Antonio Galloni

Hernandez y Sourdais Antidoto Ribera del Duero 2011 See Reviews/Buy Now

I love Spanish reds and we have a shortage of serious Cali Sauv Blancs in the shop. Honestly  Sancerre and Marlborough rule the Sauv Blanc category and we sell much more LI Sauv blanc than Cali, which is a sad state of affairs for West Coast Sauv Blanc.  Perhaps that variety had a bit of an identity crisis which is odd because Sauv Blanc is a noble variety that both retains its character and reflects its terroir wherever it may roam, and roam it has. Sauv Blanc does very well clear around the globe with a signature style wherever it goes. The most casual wine drinker can pick a New Zealand Sauv Blanc from any line up of suspects. But I digress. When our Polaner rep John told me about a closeout on the Pierson Meyer I jumped at it to have a nice SB to drink and to try to turn some of my Sancerre New Zealand drinkers to something that is a little like a cru classe white Bordeaux. The Pierson Meyer has creamy stone fruit and lemon curd flavors with good grip and acidity, a really nice wine.

The Antidoto I got because I love Spanish reds and have been on a Ribera kick lately. Ribera produces some of the most profound and most expensive Spanish Tempranillo but also produces some great values as well for the astute  wine buyer. To be able to get this wine for under $20 was all I needed to know. The conservative grader Tanzer gave it a 91 which is all I’ll say about it.
