Kung Fu Girl Riesling Charles Smith Wines 2011

“Planted in 1998 by the Jerry Milbrandt, the vineyard rows lie along a stretch of steep cliffs above the Columbia River, in an area that currently falls within the broad Columbia Valley AVA, and soon to be one of the state’s newest AVA’s The Ancient Lakes. A cooler site due to river influence, the soils are composed of fragmented basalt, gravel, silt, and caliche deposited during ice age floods. This site produces fruit with sublime mineral character and the acid balance that winemakers dream of. A very long, cold fermentation helped to bring out the maximum in true varietal character, similar to a classic “Mosel-style” Riesling. Both fermentation and aging occurred in 100% stainless steel.” -The Winery

Bisci Verdicchio di Matelica Fogliano 2008

91 Points – Wine Advocate, June 2011
“The 2008 Verdicchio di Matelica Vigneto Fogliano is a bold, intense wine graced with exquisite nuance and complexity. Mint, flowers, sage, rosemary and crushed rocks come together beautifully in this textured, polished Verdicchio. This is another winner from Bisci. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2018. Bisci is an excellent source for fine Verdicchio that redefines the heights this indigenous variety is capable of reaching. Once again I was blown away by the quality of the wines I tasted. I can’t recommend these two Verdicchios highly enough.” -Antonio Galloni

“The Fogliano comes from a single cru of the same name in the noble Verdicchio di Matelica region of Le Marche. Soils here are dominated by clay and enjoy perfect southern exposure. Many of the wines are nearly 40 years old. The perfect interplay of richness, bright acidity and minerality is very reminiscent of that found in great dry Riesling.” -The Importer

E. & M. Berger Zweigelt 2008 1L

“Zweigelt as a red wine grape variety was developed in 1922, at the Federal Institute for Viticulture and Pomology at Klosterneuburg, Austria, by Fritz Zweigelt (who was later to become the director of this institute). It is a crossing of Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent, and is now the most widely-grown red grape variety in Austria–Kartauserhof’s example is arguably the most exciting expression we’ve tasted in a while.” -The Winery

Domenico Clerico Langhe Dolcetto Visadi 2010

90 Points – Wine Advocate, October 2011
“The 2010 Langhe Dolcetto Visadi is a big, powerful wine bursting with dark varietal fruit, smoke and tar, all supported by clean mineral notes that give the wine energy and length. I especially like the voluptuous finish. This is a fabulous entry-level red from one of Barolo’s icons. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014. Readers who want to enjoy a bottle from Domenico Clerico without breaking the bank will delight in these three new releases. While perhaps somewhat counterintuitive, one of the things I value most in a grower is the quality of the entry-level offerings. These wines will please even the most demanding of palates.” -Antonio Galloni

La Rioja Alta Rioja Reserva Vina Alberdi 2005 See details

La Rioja Alta Rioja Reserva Vina Alberdi 2005

90 Points – International Wine Cellar, October 2010
“Dark red. Redcurrant, dried cherry and vanillin oak on the nose, with a smoky mineral quality in the background. Lively red fruit and rose pastille flavors are complemented by sweet vanilla bean and cola nuances. The oakiness fades away on the long finish, which is juicy, expansive and seamless. This wine’s lively acidity makes it refreshing and easy to drink now, but it really deserves patience.” -Josh Raynolds
