Aftermath of Saturday’s Tasting: The red wines rocked! Anyone have a rack of lamb?

The reds at last Saturday’s tasting blew me away, new Argentine Malbec, McClaren Vale Shiraz, Napa Cab & for extra credit a single vineyard Barolo from Paolo Scavino. Here’s my take on these wines
Piattelli Vineyards Premium Malbec 2009
A delightful malbec with lots of plum flavors, refined tannins and a nice moderately full body. Merlot fans should take notice and give it a try
This is a shameless, deep dark fruit bomb with loads of lipsmacking blackberry, raspberry, boysenberry and a bit of spice and dust. It has a soft structure but enough spine to keep it interesting. Definitely good for grilled steaks, lamb, sausage, burgers or pizza
Jax Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2007
The Jackson family produced about 900 case of this wine, a thimbleful by California standards. It is all Napa fruit, about 95% Cabernet Sauvignon with a little Merlot, et, al., in the balance. the wine has great dark cherry flavors with a hint of dust, cocoa powder, a little herb, and a light toastiness. The tannins are very fine and nicely resolved. There are not too many 2007 Napa Cabs left out there and this one is a really fine example
Paolo Scavino Bricco Ambroglio Barolo 2005, wow!!! This was our extra credit wine, a little surprise for those that made the trip to Mora’s today
This is showing extremely well. with about an hour of breathing the tannins melted and the bouquet blossomed with lots of plush aromas of dried rose petal, currant, mulberry and hints of leather, spice and smoke. The palate is smooth and luxurious I think this wine is drinking just about perfectly with a long life ahead of it.
